Share

An early morning police sweep Thursday through Simi Valley and Moorpark netted 13 suspected gang members and their associates, authorities said.

The sweep of 27 sites believed by authorities to be connected with gang activity was conducted by the Simi Valley Police Task Force and several other local, county, state and federal law enforcement organizations.

The sweep is one of a series of activities designed to eliminate gang violence after a spate of incidents in Simi Valley earlier this year.

Nine men and one woman were detained by the Border Patrol for being in the United States illegally, and authorities said they will probably be deported.

Casey William Dievendorf, 22, of Simi Valley was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Los Angeles County for creating a disturbance. Police believe that Dievendorf is a gang member. He posted bail and was released.

Two Simi Valley teenagers were cited and released on misdemeanor narcotics charges. Joshua King, 19, and Joseph Garza, 18, are suspected of being associates of gang members.

In addition to the Border Patrol and Simi Valley police, Ventura County sheriff’s deputies from Moorpark and Thousand Oaks and county probation officers took part in the raid.
