Volunteers / Helping hands : CYPRESS : Nietos Are Honored as Family of Year
The city has recognized the volunteer efforts of Tony and Anne Nieto and their three children--Nick, Bobby and Kathy--in selecting them as the 1995 Cypress Family of the Year.
In a ceremony at which the Nietos received a formal commendation from the City Council, officials praised the couple, who have been Cypress residents since 1962, for their work on the Save Open Space Committee.
Those efforts, officials said, resulted in the passage of a park-development bond for neighborhood parks and a community center.
Tony Nieto has served on the board of the Cypress Boys and Girls Club and currently is a member of the Cypress Community Festival Assn. The council also lauded the senior Nietos for co-founding the city’s 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer annual runs in 1982.
“Tony and Anne are to be praised for their strong commitment to each other, to family and to the community,” the City Council’s resolution read.
