Police Remove WW II-Era Grenade

A World War II-era hand grenade with its pin still intact was removed from a home in the 1200 block of Western Avenue on Saturday after residents called police, authorities said.

Glendale Police Sgt. Richard Navarro said the residents knew that the previous owner of the home kept the grenade in the garage but had not done anything about it for three years.

“They just finally decided to get rid of it,” Navarro said.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s explosives specialists examined the bomb at 2:45 p.m., and discovered that it was inert, police said.

“It’s 50 years old,” Navarro said. “Something that old might be unstable, so we take extra precautions so that no one gets hurt.”

The grenade was taken to a sheriff’s bomb disposal site in Saugus, police said.
