A young man shot to death in his car Monday by people who had followed him home was identified by police Tuesday as 23-year-old Richard Linares.
Linares was known to police as a gang member, although he may not have been an active gang member recently, said Lt. Bob Helton. He had just taken his girlfriend home and arrived at his house in the 1600 block of South Shelton Street about 6:30 p.m. when four people in a compact car showed up, police said.
Three armed people got out of the car and fired 20 to 30 times at a car in the driveway, leaving Linares dead in the driver’s seat.
The shooting was the city’s 44th gang-related killing this year.
