NEWPORT BEACH : 2 Branch Libraries to Reopen on Mondays
- Share via
The Mariners and Balboa library branches will reopen Mondays thanks to a shift in budget allocations by the Library Board of Trustees.
By not filling a vacant full-time librarian position at the Central Library, trustees were able to reallocate about $54,000 to the two branches, allowing them to reopen on Mondays in late January, said city Librarian LaDonna Kienitz.
Kienitz said pressure from residents and some City Council members influenced the trustees decision to reinstate the lost hours.
Because of its proximity to the Central Library, which is open 71 hours, adding hours to the Corona del Mar branch was not a priority.
