Man Sentenced to 8 Years for Attempted Rape at Mall
A man who was apparently obsessed with Asian women has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the attempted rape of a woman from Singapore at a Torrance mall.
Julio Madrid, 29, of Los Angeles was convicted in October in the July 17 attack at the Del Amo Fashion Center, where he once was employed as a janitor.
The victim had just ordered a meal at the mall’s food court and walked over to a restroom when Madrid, whose wallet was full of pictures of nude Asian women, grabbed and dragged the screaming woman 100 feet into a utility closet.
A food court worker heard the screams and banged on the utility closet door. When Madrid opened it, the worker punched the dumbfounded Madrid and the victim escaped.
