A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck a lightly populated part of the Sierra 15 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe early Friday, causing no damage or injuries but awakening residents along the California-Nevada border, seismologists reported.

The 1:01 a.m. quake, which was felt in Sacramento and Yosemite National Park, occurred close to the site of the magnitude 6.3 earthquake on Sept. 12, 1994, in the border region, said Waverly Person, director of the National Earthquake Information Center at Golden, Colo.
