A suspected drunk driver allegedly fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash late Friday ran a red light and collided with another auto, killing its driver, according to Los Angeles police.

Augustine Perez, 30, was driving south on Zelzah Avenue when he reportedly ran a red light and broadsided a car turning left from eastbound Nordhoff Street about 9:25 p.m., said Officer Leona Thomas of the Valley Traffic Division.

The driver of the broadsided car, Ranjit Dhian, 48, a native of India living in Reseda, died at a local hospital.

His car was knocked into a third vehicle heading east on Nordhoff Street, but no one in that car was injured.

At the time of the crash, Thomas said, Perez was being chased by the driver of a vehicle he had reportedly hit about five blocks away. Perez complained of neck pain and was examined at Granada Hills Community Hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.
