A driver hit a disabled man’s electric scooter, then pulled over to remove debris from the car and drove off while the victim lay dying, police said.

Paul Hutter, who had cerebral palsy, was returning to his Hofstra University dormitory early Friday after celebrating his recent graduation with friends.

The crash threw Hutter 200 feet, and parts of his scooter were found 500 feet away, police said. The driver is believed to have pulled into the rear of a nearby gas station to remove pieces of the scooter that had become embedded in the car, police said.

Hutter, 31, earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and planned to go to law school. His mother, Anna, said he dreamed of a career in politics, working on behalf of the disabled.
