Russell Baze, who recently became the first jockey to ride 400 winners four years in a row, is the winner of the inaugural Isaac Murphy Award.

The 37-year-old Baze, based in Northern California, led the nation in 1995 with 448 victories. He had a national-best winning percentage of .292, the criteria on which the award was decided.

Murphy was one of the great jockeys of the 19th Century.
