New York Giant quarterback Dave Brown will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week, and is expected to need two to four months to recuperate, the team said.

Brown, who becomes a free agent this month, damaged cartilage in a game Oct. 29. He wore a brace on the knee for the rest of the season.

The Giants also announced that General Manager George Young had received a multi-year contract extension. Young, 65, has held the position since 1979.

Renovating and putting a dome over Texas Stadium, the open-air facility that houses the Dallas Cowboys, would be unrealistic, according to Warren Morey, the original architect.

Morey said a dome would require major reinforcement of the roof support system. Also, he said sight lines for spectators could not be maintained if Cowboy owner Jerry Jones pursues a plan to expand seating by lowering the field and raising the roof.

But Jones is adamant, saying, “They obviously don’t have any plans and they don’t have any information. I’m very confident the concept that I want to do is very feasible.”
