Winter Storm Puts Crimp in Ducks’ Travel Plans

The blizzard that hit the East Coast with record amounts of snow forced postponement of a number of sports events Monday, and made life difficult for the Mighty Ducks, who were trying to get to Philadelphia for a game tonight against the Flyers.

The Ducks left Edmonton, where they had lost to the Oilers, 3-1, Sunday, but got no farther than Pittsburgh because the Philadelphia airport was closed.

They will try to fly to Philadelphia this morning and will miss their morning skate, after having missed practice Monday as well.

But at least the Ducks are figuring on playing, and there was not much of that going on Monday in the East.

The scheduled NBA game between the 76ers and Orlando at the Spectrum in Philadelphia was postponed when the Magic was unable to reach Philadelphia after getting as far as Allentown, Pa. And in the NHL, games between the Rangers and Washington Capitals in New York, and the Bruins and Colorado in Boston were rescheduled.

The storm also made NHL players and fans wait one more day to learn which players were selected as All-Star game reserves, since Monday’s scheduled announcement was postponed until today.

In all, 21 college basketball games were postponed Monday including No. 7 Villanova at No. 6 Connecticut and Miami at Seton Hall.
