PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : Hall of Fame Finalists Are Announced

Former Washington Redskin Coach Joe Gibbs, Cincinnati quarterback Ken Anderson and Pittsburgh center Mike Webster are the first-time nominees on the list of 15 finalists announced Thursday for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

They were joined by offensive linemen Dan Dierdorf (St. Louis Cardinals 1971-83), Tom Mack (Los Angeles Rams 1966-78) and Dwight Stephenson (Miami Dolphins 1980-87); defensive ends Carl Eller (Minnesota 1964-78, Seattle 1979), L.C. Greenwood (Pittsburgh 1969-81) and Jack Youngblood (Rams 1971-84); defensive backs Mike Haynes (New England 1976-82, Raiders 1983-89) and Mel Renfro (Dallas 1964-77) and wide receivers Charlie Joiner (Houston 1969-72, Cincinnati 1972-75, San Diego 1976-86), John Stallworth (Pittsburgh 1974-87) and Lynn Swann (Pittsburgh 1974-82). The senior nominee is Detroit offensive tackle Lou Creekmur (1950-59).

The Hall of Fame board will meet Jan. 27 in Phoenix to elect the class of 1996.

New York Jet guard Carlton Haselrig pleaded guilty to driving his four-wheel drive vehicle across the grounds of a Pittsburgh seminary in December 1994. Allegheny County Judge David Cercone ordered Haselrig, a former Pro Bowl guard with the Pittsburgh Steelers, to spend two to 23 months in prison.
