De Beaubien to Play Football at San Diego State

El Toro’s Damian de Beaubien has committed to play football at San Diego State, his father, Gary, said Thursday.

De Beaubien, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker, was a Times Orange County first-team selection and helped the Chargers win the Southern Section Division V championship. He set a school record with 147 tackles, 80 of which were solo, this season.

Laurie Lamb, a forward for the girls’ soccer team at Edison High, has orally committed to attend UC Irvine, her mother, Sharon, said.

Lamb, a member of the state Olympic development program, was an All-Sunset League selection as junior.

Ashley Bethel, a sophomore standout at Mission Viejo High, will be among the athletes honored at the Southern California Assn. of USA Track and Field awards banquet Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Saddleback College defensive back Scott Patton was named the J.C. Athletic Bureau’s Region IV defensive player of the year.

Patton, sophomore, had three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns, and 85 tackles this season. Patton was also named first-team All-American by the J.C Athletic Bureau, along with teammates David Cruickshank, Jeff Fackrell and Justin Vedder.
