Grammy Whammy

Congratulations to the Grammy nominating committee for finally recognizing the contributions of female artists this year (“The Grammys’ New Vitalogy,” Jan. 5). As for the rest, maybe I’m missing something. A 4-year-old album for best hard rock performance (Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”)? A more than decade-old song for best metal performance (Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls”)? A greatest-hits package as album of the year (Michael Jackson’s “HIStory--Past, Present and Future Book 1”)? A classic rock chestnut for best male rock vocal performance (Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”)? In the words of Nirvana, another worthy and influential band, but also one who is a silly nomination this year, “Oh well, whatever, nevermind.”
