Woman, Dog Killed by Motorist

An elderly woman and her dog were killed by a hit-and-run driver as they crossed a Glendale street Friday afternoon, police said.

The 77-year-old woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she died six hours later, said Glendale Police Sgt. Bruce Fox.

Police said the woman and her dog were crossing Glendale Avenue at Monterey Road about 3:30 p.m. when a car traveling southbound on Glendale made a right turn onto Monterey and struck them. The dog died immediately, Fox said.

The driver of the car, described as an older, white-haired woman, fled the scene in a royal blue American-made sedan, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at (818) 548-3131 or call the Crimestoppers Anonymous line at (818) 507-7867.
