An elderly woman and her dog were killed by a hit-and-run driver as they crossed a Glendale street Friday afternoon, police said.

The 77-year-old woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where she died six hours later, said Glendale Police Sgt. Bruce Fox.

Police said the woman and her dog were crossing Glendale Avenue at Monterey Road about 3:30 p.m. when a car traveling southbound on Glendale made a right turn onto Monterey and struck them. The dog died immediately, Fox said.
