. . . African American leaders, angered by Santa Ana’s refusal to close city offices for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, agreed to cancel protests after city officials promised to work toward recognition of the holiday the following year.
Only Huntington Beach and Irvine observed the holiday by closing government offices.
