Rebuilding of Old Barn Can Continue

To the displeasure of some of his neighbors, Dennis Holland has been granted city permission to go forward with his plan to rebuild the historic Buffalo Ranch barn in the frontyard of his Newport Beach home.

The building, which was once used to store farm equipment on the old Irvine Ranch, had been housed at the Orange County Fairgrounds and was slated for destruction in November when Holland volunteered to dismantle and move it.

Holland, a vintage car collector, said at the time that he wanted to restore the barn on his property because of its historic value and because he recalled wandering around the old Buffalo Ranch buildings when they housed a restaurant and offices.

Newport Beach planning commissioners said this week that Holland is free to build his barn.
