Trabuco Hills Wins in Overtime

Trabuco Hills made 12 of 14 free throws in overtime to defeat San Clemente, 64-55, Friday night in a South Coast League game.

Semaj Johnson hit two free throws for San Clemente (11-10, 1-4) in the final seconds of regulation to tie the score, 45-45. Nick Punto responded with a basket at the buzzer, but was called for traveling, sending the game into overtime.

Punto finished with 22 points and Mike Cummins had 11 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks for Trabuco Hills (11-10, 3-2). Johnson led San Clemente with 14 points.

In other South Coast games:

Mater Dei 75, Mission Viejo 55--Kevin Augustine scored 21 points to lead top-ranked Mater Dei (22-1, 5-0). Teammate Troy Harrell made four three-pointers and finished with 16 points.

Gabe Burt scored 14 points for Mission Viejo (15-7, 2-3). The Diablos stayed within six points until Mater Dei outscored them 26-12 in the fourth quarter.

In the Academy League:

St. Michael’s Prep 47, Fairmont 43--Mark Payne scored a game-high 17 points for St. Michael’s Prep (5-8, 1-3).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 85, Kennedy 65--Kevin Sweet had 24 points and six assists to lead El Dorado (11-9, 2-2). Teammate Ryan Ayer scored 15 points.

Katella 75, Century 61--Jacy Armbruster scored 11 of his 30 points in the third quarter, when the Knights (15-3, 3-1) expanded the lead to 12 points. Carlos Romero added 17 points for Katella. Hector Beltran scored 21 points for Century (12-8, 2-2).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 75, Fullerton 56--Jeffrey Berokoff scored 26 points, helping No. 6 Sonora (16-5, 5-0) remain undefeated in league. Josh Lien scored 11 points and had seven rebounds and freshman Marqui Worthy scored nine points in reserve for Sonora.

Sunny Hills 67, La Habra 57--Sean Granillo scored 21 points as Sunny Hills (8-13, 1-4) won its first league game.

In the Golden West League:

Westminster 65, Santa Ana 54--Brandon Fox scored 26 points for host Westminster (7-13, 2-3), which led, 31-23, at halftime. Santa Ana is 11-7, 3-2.

In the Olympic League:

Calvary Chapel 70, Cerritos Valley Christian 51--Nate Morton had 23 points, Joe Ortiz added 21 and Kevin Falconer had 12 points and 13 assists for visiting Calvary Chapel (16-4, 5-0), which led, 54-35, after three quarters.

Whittier Christian 72, Brethren Christian 69--Brad Smith hit a three-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to win the game for Whittier Christian (6-15, 3-2). Smith had stolen the ball with 12-seconds left in regulation and made a layup to send the game into overtime.

Dan Muilenberg scored 19 points for Brethren Christian (5-11, 2-3).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 92, Savanna 46--Eric Repp scored 16 points and teammate Sean Wink scored 15 points to lead eight-ranked Brea Olinda (18-2, 4-0).

Savanna drops to 3-16 overall, 0-4 in league.

Valencia 48, Magnolia 46--Nick Gamboa hit two free throws with 34 seconds left to clinch the victory for Valencia (11-8, 3-1). Ricky Cardenas helped seal the victory with two three-pointers in the final quarter. Robert Smith led Valencia with 12 points and Kevin Jackley had nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 76, University 74 (2 OT)--Jeff Munsell of Aliso Niguel had 37 points, including the game winning free-throws in double overtime. Munsell also had 19 rebounds and 10 blocks for Aliso Niguel (11-9, 3-2).

Estancia 64, Laguna Beach 56--Dane Plock scored 17 points and Nick Novak scored 15 to lead Estancia (17-4, 4-1). Envery Zoobzokov and Ryan Satrappe each had 14 points for Laguna Beach (3-2 in league).

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 39, Corona del Mar 37--Amir Rahimi scored inside with two seconds remaining for host Irvine (9-12, 3-2). Adam Klinke scored 16 points for Corona del Mar (11-9, 2-3).

Santa Margarita 83, Newport Harbor 50--Dennis Keane had 16 points and six assists and Allen Krist scored 10 of his 17 points in the second quarter, when Santa Margarita took the lead, 37-18, at halftime. Wes Badorek scored 22 points for Newport Harbor (5-15, 0-5).

Woodbridge 69, El Toro 39--Chris Burgess had 26 points and 10 rebounds for third-ranked Woodbridge (17-5, 4-1), which led, 60-33, after three quarters.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 50, Fountain Valley 44--Josh Pardo hit two of his five three-pointers in the fourth quarter to cushion Huntington Beach’s lead. Pardo finished with 18 points. Matt Jones led Huntington Beach (6-13, 3-2) with 24 points. For Fountain Valley (8-10, 2-3) Nate Strange scored 19 and Timm Katz had 12.

Esperanza 80, Edison 52--Josh Greer scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds for third-ranked Esperanza (18-3, 4-1). Teammate Matt Munson added 12 points and Pat Chidley led Edison (11-9, 2-3) with 10.
