Junior center Ike Nwankwo, who played sparingly at UCLA, will transfer to Long Beach State, sources close to Nwankwo said Sunday night.

Nwankwo, 6 feet 11, 234 pounds, will enroll at Long Beach State in time for the start of the spring semester, beginning Jan. 29. Nwankwo was unavailable for comment Sunday night.

In the last few weeks, Nwankwo visited Long Beach and Loyola Marymount.

Under NCAA rules, Nwankwo must complete a year of residence and 24 units at Long Beach before becoming eligible to play. Upon meeting those requirements, Nwankwo may join the team at the end of the next fall semester. He can practice with Long Beach immediately.
