SHOWS FOR YOUNGSTERS AND THEIR PARENTS TOO : ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ on AMC; ‘Rock-a-Doodle’ on Disney; ‘Pippi’ on KTLA

A KTLA marathon centers on that effervescent red-haired Swedish youngster Pippi, starting with 1973’s Pippi Longstocking Sunday at 11 a.m., followed by 1974’s Pippi on the South Seas; 1975’s Pippi Goes on Board, and 1977’s Pippi on the Run. The marathon ends at 6:30 p.m. For ages 4 and up.

Take a trip into outer space with Voyages: The Rubber Universe (Thursday, 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. A&E;). The show tries to answer the questions: How did the universe begin--and when? What will its ultimate fate be? Is the Big Bang theory viable? For ages 8 and up.

Glen Campbell, Christopher Plummer, Phil Harris, Sandy Duncan, Eddie Deezen, Charles Nelson Reilly and Sorrell Brooke are the among the actors who provide voices for the animated movie Rock--a--Doodle (Friday, 1 p.m. Disney Channel). For ages 2 and up.

AMC will air a series of classic Betty Boop (Saturday, 8 a.m.) cartoons, featuring the Kewpie-pie gal. Later that morning, Superman (9:35 a.m.) toons will air, followed by 1947’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (10:05 a.m.), starring the versatile Danny Kaye and the lovely Virginia Mayo and based on the James Thurber short story. Cartoons for ages 2 to 8 and “Mitty” for ages 6 and up.

It may seem a little early, but since February bears the distinction of the month of love, the Disney Channel airs A Special Valentine With the Family Circus (Friday, 4 p.m.), as the kids make valentines for their parents. The show, based on characters from Bill Keane’s comic strip, is followed by For Better or for Worse “A Valentine From the Heart” (4:30 p.m.), with characters based on Lynn Johnston’s comic strip. For ages 2 and up.

Florida’s favorite mammal is featured on Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventure “Swimming With the Manatees” (Saturday, 12:30 p.m. KABC). For ages 6 and up.

Investigative Reports: EMS Street Saviors (Saturday, 6 and 10 p.m. A&E;), which journeys with the men and women of New York City’s Emergency Medical Service as they patrol the streets. For ages 8 and up.

Disney also airs 1975’s Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.). Sally’s thrilled when Linus brings a yummy box of chocolate treats to school, but the sweets are actually for his teacher. Meanwhile, Lucy thinks the quickest way to a man’s--in this case, Schroeder’s--heart is through demands. And that lovable blockhead, Charlie Brown, anxiously awaits his Valentines. For ages 2 and up.
