Columnist Jeff Jacobs of the Hartford Courant found one Cowboy pregame pronouncement right on the money.

“Troy Aikman was going to throw for 400 yards, four touchdowns and forever be the loner who stays home and anonymously surfs America Online,” Jacobs wrote.

“Michael Irvin was going to catch all four TD passes and make Jerry Rice miserable old news.

“Emmitt Smith was going to rush for 200 yards, score three touchdowns and babble on about his trademark ‘Emmitt Zone’ where anything is possible.

“Barry Switzer was going to hoot, holler and carry on like a bootlegger’s boy in an after-hours honky tonk. Jerry Jones was going to filibuster until he was yapping to an empty room.

“And Deion Sanders? Well, let’s put it this way: Have you ever seen Prime Time and Diana Ross in the same room? He was ready to belt out old Supremes tunes at halftime.

“The final score? It surely would be Dallas 50, Pittsburgh 3.

“All week, the hot air kept filling America’s Team’s balloon.

“All week, the hot air kept filling America’s Team’s balloon. Aikman. Smith. Irvin. Sanders. Puff. Puff. Puff. The only one talkin’ Larry Brown was none other than Deion.

“Prime Time kept saying Larry Brown should have made the Pro Bowl. Prime Time kept telling the huddled media to give Larry Brown a break. But Deion says so many things that most of it is forgotten after the first yuk, yuk, yuk.”
