High School to Offer Advanced Diploma

Share

Newbury Park High School has received official word that, starting in the fall, it can offer students an advanced studies diploma recognized throughout the world, officials say.

Newbury Park, the first school in the county to join the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, will offer advanced courses in English, history, math, science, social science and the theory of knowledge. Students will be required to write a thesis and perform 100 hours of community service as part of the curriculum.

At the end of the program, students must pass six internationally graded exams.

The program, sponsored by the International Baccalaureate World Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, awards qualified students a “full international diploma,” Conejo Unified School District officials said.

Officials with the program toured the school in October to make sure that Newbury Park has the faculty, motivation and facilities to offer the special degree.
