Southeast : Cities Call Truce in Costly Legal Battle
Feuding Santa Fe Springs and La Mirada officials have agreed to a truce in their costly quarrel over how cities can and cannot use tax revenues to lure fickle businesses.
In three lawsuits filed last year, Santa Fe Springs accused La Mirada officials of misusing redevelopment funds to attract businesses from neighboring cities, including Santa Fe Springs.
In exchange for the agreement, La Mirada officials have stopped offering the rebates to Santa Fe Springs businesses.
“It’s too bad we weren’t able to talk [with Santa Fe Springs] before expending $50,000 [on attorneys],” La Mirada City Manager Gary Sloan said.
