What’s Wrong With Hollywood

Share

It seems to me that the story of Don Simpson’s life proves what’s wrong with Hollywood and its influence on American taste (“End of an Era’s Quintessential Producer,” Jan. 23).

If an arrogant psychopath who didn’t have a steady girlfriend because he never met anyone he wanted to spend more than one weekend with, and who threw out his jeans after two washings because they wouldn’t be black enough anymore, can do as much as Simpson did to popularize brakes-screeching, metal-twisting crashes, there was no one with the brains to rein him in.

The fact that he finally dropped out of dominance just goes to prove that the public isn’t as dumb as Hollywood producers think it is, even though not all of them seem to have got the word yet.
