Popular Favorites: Nominations are in for the 22nd annual People’s Choice Awards, in which “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen, Kelsey Grammer of “Frasier” and “Seinfeld’s” Jerry Seinfeld are up for favorite male television performer and Candice Bergen of “Murphy Brown,” “Seinfeld’s” Julia Louis-Dreyfus and “Roseanne” star Roseanne will vie for favorite female TV star. NBC’s “Friends” and “Seinfeld” and ABC’s “Home Improvement” are nominated for best comedy series; CBS’ “Chicago Hope,” NBC’s “ER” and ABC’s “NYPD Blue” are up for best drama. Film nominees include best actor candidates Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt and best actress contenders Sandra Bullock, Demi Moore and Sharon Stone. “Apollo 13,” “Grumpier Old Men” and “Toy Story” are nominated for favorite movie. The winners, voted by the public in a Gallup poll that also picks the nominees, will be announced March 10, when the awards show airs on CBS.

Disney’s Angels: Disney’s computer-animated movie “Toy Story” garnered the Sweepstakes Award Thursday at the 19th annual International Angel Awards, presented at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel by the group Excellence in Media to recognize entertainment projects for their “moral, ethical and/or social impact on society.” Disney fare won three additional awards: “Dangerous Minds” was named best movie drama, “Father of the Bride II” won for best movie comedy and “Sing Me a Story: With Belle” was voted best children’s TV series. Other winners included Universal’s pig fable “Babe,” for best family film; CBS’ “Touched by an Angel,” best TV drama; and ABC’s “Coach,” best TV comedy. And manufacturer Procter & Gamble was given the International Corporate Award for pulling its advertising from talk shows that were perceived to focus on sleazy topics.

GLAAD Tidings: “Boys on the Side,” “Carrington,” “Home for the Holidays” and “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar” will vie for outstanding film and NBC’s “Friends” and “Sisters,” ABC’s “NYPD Blue,” Fox’s “Party of Five” and CBS’ canceled “Courthouse” will compete for best TV series when the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation holds its seventh annual GLAAD Media Awards on March 10 at the Century Plaza Hotel. Among other honorees, ABC News’ Barbara Walters will receive the group’s special Excellence in Media Award for her commitment to covering gay and lesbian issues.
