Phone Book Pickup Program Extended

Share

Usually the new Pacific Bell and GTE phone directories arrive in April, hitting front steps around the county with a heavy thud. But this year the delivery schedules for the new books are different, posing a problem for county recyclers.

The Ventura County Solid Waste Management Department is eager to see the directories recycled: Every ton of recycled phone books saves the equivalent of 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water and 380 gallons of oil.

New Pacific Bell directories are due to arrive throughout February, while GTE directories will come in April. To accommodate the change, the county has extended the times when residents can leave the old books curbside to be picked up.

This year’s dates for curbside recycling are Feb. 8 through March 15 and April 15 through May 20. Call your city recycling coordinator or the phone book recycling hotline at (800) 953-4400 for more information.
