CS Fullerton Ends Big West Road Drought
Cal State Fullerton finally came up with the formula for its first Big West basketball victory on the road this season, and got a sweep of New Mexico State in the process.
The Titans shot 51% from the field and made 23 of 27 of free throws while overcoming 29 turnovers to beat the Aggies, 68-63, Thursday night before 4,755, ending a string of eight consecutive losses in the Pan American Center.
It was the first time the Titans (6-15, 5-8) have won both games against New Mexico State (8-14, 5-9) since the 1986-1987 season. The Aggies had won nine in a row against Fullerton before the Titans stopped that streak in Titan Gym earlier this year.
“That kind of free throw shooting is a big boost on the road,” said Titan Coach Bob Hawking.
The Titans also were helped by a 36-24 rebounding edge.
John Williams and Chuck Overton scored 18 and 17 points respectively to lead four Fullerton players in double figures.
Enoch Davis and Chewy Johnson had 13 points each for the Aggies.
