Grissom Hangs On and Wins Goody’s 300
Driving a Chevrolet sponsored by World Championship Wrestlers, Steve Grissom outpowered Winston Cup veterans Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin to win the Goody’s 300 before an estimated 95,000 spectators Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.
Grissom, from Gadsden, Ala., passed Jarrett five laps from the finish of the 120-lap Busch Grand National race and fought off the two Fords to collect $54,697 and bearhugs from wrestlers Sting, Lex Lugar and Harlem Heat.
Wrecks that eliminated 10 cars and damaged a number of others kept the average speed down to 140.772 mph.
