Appointive Offices Proposal to Be Argued
The Orange Taxpayers Assn. will sponsor a debate tonight on ballot measures that would make certain elective municipal posts appointive.
Nick Lall, president of the association, will argue against making offices such as treasurer and clerk appointive.
Orange attorney Philip Hummel will represent civic and business organizations pushing to change some positions from elective to appointive in the wake of the county bankruptcy.
The cities of Brea, Huntington Beach, Orange and San Clemente all have measures on the March 26 ballot proposing that city treasurers and various other officials be appointed rather than elected.
Several candidates for Superior Court seats will also speak at the forum. The debate begins at 7 p.m. in the Orange Public Library at Center Street and Chapman Avenue. Admission is free.
