Cincinnati Red outfielder Thomas Howard will sit out four weeks because of a broken wrist, and catcher Damon Berryhill is expected to sit out the entire season following reconstructive surgery on his elbow.

The Reds said from Plant City, Fla., that Howard broke his right wrist while carrying luggage down the stairs of his home.

Berryhill had exploratory surgery on his throwing elbow late Tuesday. Dr. Lew Yocum found ligament damage in Berryhill’s throwing elbow and performed so-called “Tommy John” surgery to replace it.
