Depot to Get Vintage-Style Chandeliers

The Fullerton train station soon will be lighted by 10 chandeliers reminiscent of the original fixtures.

The City Council, acting in its capacity as the Redevelopment Agency, voted this week to spend $13,000 on the wrought-iron chandeliers.

Mayor Chris Norby and Councilman Don Bankhead voted against the project, saying it will cost too much.

City officials said that the chandeliers, each of which will feature 11 teardrop-shaped bulbs, will be manufactured by a Santa Ana company that at one time made such fixtures for restaurants.

The Redevelopment Agency decided against chandeliers when it approved the depot remodeling project last summer, saying that the fixtures, estimated to cost $32,000, would be too expensive.

Since then, however, staff members learned of the Santa Ana manufacturer, which agreed to make the chandeliers for less.
