Titans Inundated With Requests for Weekend Baseball Tickets

The Cal State Fullerton ticket office has been buzzing with ticket requests for the Anaheim Hilton & Towers Baseball Classic, which begins today at Titan Field. “We’ve already sold about 1,400 tickets in advance for Sunday,” ticket manager Patty Sexton said.

Sunday’s schedule has Fullerton playing USC at 5 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s College World Series championship game won by the Titans, 11-5. Sunday’s other game is Florida State against Oklahoma at 12:30 p.m.

Sexton said about 800 tickets have been sold in advance for the other two days.

Refurbished Titan Field has 1,500 permanent chair seats, and space for an additional 200 in concrete bleachers. Fullerton added about 200 additional seats Thursday by moving some temporary bleachers from the track field to the baseball stadium. The remaining space is standing room only. The largest crowd this season was 2,083 for the home opener against Fresno State.

“The only time I can remember that compares to this was when UNLV was really good in basketball and they played here,” said Sexton. “This has really been remarkable. The phones in our office have barely stopped ringing the last few days.”

The event features four teams that reached the College World Series last year in Omaha.

Today’s games match USC (8-2) against Oklahoma (5-1) at 2:30 p.m., followed by Fullerton (9-1) meeting Florida State (7-0) at 7.

The round robin continues Saturday with USC facing Florida State at 2:30 and Fullerton meeting Oklahoma at 7.
