Red Cross to Collect Blood at New Site
Beginning Wednesday, monthly blood drives in Granada Hills will be held in space provided by the Devonshire Division at the new Los Angeles Police Department community center in the Granada Hills Plaza.
The American Red Cross blood collection facility is moving from its old location at Granada Hills Community Hospital to bigger facilities, said Barbara Wilks, a Red Cross spokeswoman.
Volunteers may donate blood from 2 to 7:15 p.m. every fourth Wednesday at the center, 16263 San Fernando Mission Blvd., Wilks said.
She said eligible donors must be 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and not be at risk for HIV/AIDS or other communicable diseases.
Wilks said about 1,000 people use blood from blood banks in the Los Angeles area daily. “None of us can tell when it might be us or someone we love” who might need donated blood, she said.
