The Los Angeles Zoo

Share

I, along with several of my classmates, would like to see the Los Angeles Zoo become the Los Angeles Sanctuary, a place of refuge for abused, neglected and displaced wildlife. By following the example of the Orange County Zoo, the Los Angeles Zoo could become the first major zoo in this country to change its mission by becoming a haven for those animals who cannot be returned to the wild, who have been made homeless by the destruction of natural habitats [or] who have been abused and neglected by personal owners and institutions.

Rather than creating another “world-class” zoo competing for the cutting edge in rare and exotic breeds through breeding, trading and acquiring animals, the Los Angeles Sanctuary could become a zoo with a finer purpose.
