Pre-’Postman’ Pictures: A four-film retrospective of the work of Massimo Troisi, the Italian actor who died of heart disease shortly after completing his Oscar-nominated role in “The Postman (Il Postino),” runs today through Sunday at Wilshire Boulevard’s Cecchi Gori Fine Arts Theater. The retrospective, which will travel to other U.S. cities after the L.A. engagement, presents the 1989 films “Splendor” and “Che Ora E (What Time Is It?),” both co-starring Marcello Mastroianni and directed by Ettore Scola; 1990’s “Il Viaggio Di Capitan Fracassa (The Voyage of Captain Fracassa),” featuring Troisi in the role of hapless traveling theater leader Pulcinella, a role he made famous on the Italian stage, and 1991’s “Pensavo Fosse Amore Invece Era Un Calesse (I Thought It Was Love),” a self-directed comedy about a bridegroom who loses his fiancee on their wedding day. All four films will be shown each day; screenings start at 2 p.m.
