A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 705 days in jail after pleading no contest to drunk driving and violating his probation for three previous convictions--including two for drunk driving, officials said Friday.

Manuel Reyes Garcia was also placed on five years’ probation by Van Nuys Municipal Judge A. Gregg Marcus, who scheduled a March 25 hearing to determine if Garcia’s 1985 Ford pickup truck should be impounded, Deputy City Atty. Charles Aguado said.

Los Angeles police officers arrested Garcia Nov. 18 after he allegedly ran a red light and hit a motorist at the intersection of Topanga Canyon and Ventura boulevards. His blood-alcohol content was .13%, well above the legal limit of .08%, Aguado said.

Garcia’s previous drunk-driving convictions were on Feb. 3, 1992--when he was fined and sentenced to 12 days in jail--and Aug. 14, 1992--when he was fined and sentenced to 120 days in jail.

He was also convicted of battery in 1993.
