Master’s Seeded in NAIA Event

The Master’s College has been seeded third in the NAIA Division I men’s basketball tournament and will play Clafin (S.C.) in a first-round game at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday.

The 32-team tournament runs from March 12-18.

Master’s (27-6), which has won eight in a row, is making its third consecutive appearance in the Division I tournament.

Clafin (18-11) qualified for the tournament by winning the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

Junior guard C.J. Thompkins of Columbia has been named to the All-Ivy League second team. Thompkins, a Campbell Hall High graduate, averaged a team-high 14.8 points.

Football

Three Golden League players have committed to play at four-year schools next fall. Antelope Valley High tackle Michael Deagon will attend Brown, and Palmdale receiver Kamal Jannah has committed to Quincy University in Illinois.

Quartz Hill quarterback Brian Woodworth will play football and basketball at Western Montana.

Valley College announced plans to sponsor a City versus Southern Section high school all-star game June 8 at Valley.

Rosters will draw from the 53 high schools within Valley’s recruiting boundaries.
