LITTLE BEYOND THE BEST SELLERS

Share

Recently I have read about several very interesting books and have later tried to purchase them at the local book chains, without much success. Don’t the buyers for these chains read? A case in point is the Feb. 4 review by Susan Reynolds of “The Double Legacy--Reflections on a Pair of Deaths” by Rachel Hadas. I was able to secure one copy in the Topanga Plaza B. Dalton and when I tried to purchase five more copies for gifts I was told that the supplier was out of stock and did not plan to have any additional copies in the future. I then tried Bookstar and they did not even have a listing for any books by Hadas (even though she has written 11 other books within the past few years). Trying later at Barnes & Noble, I was able to order the five additional copies, but was not able to order any of her other books. We are seeing a great loss here in Los Angeles for those remaining people who still like to read. What a shame!
