GO FIGURE: Kids who never knew a Jabba from a Jedi are swarming stores for new “Star Wars” action figures. Problem is, most stores sell out of the $5 figures within minutes and some charge as much as $20. Rumors are flying that the Princess Leia figure was discontinued, driving the price even higher. . . . But Kenner, the company that makes the figures, says more are on the way. Leia, too.

TERRA FIRMA: After a frustrating 16-day mission, space shuttle Columbia returned to Earth on Saturday in Florida. A planned landing at Edwards Air Force Base was scrubbed when bad weather cleared at Cape Canaveral. “The last couple days have been kind of trying,” said Columbia pilot and CSUN alum Scott Horowitz.

GOOD NIGHT: After battling his Sherman Oaks neighbors for four years, John Dunn is calling it quits. The owner of the Insomnia Cafe, a late-night hangout for suburban bohemians, said the coffeehouse is up for sale (B1). “I’m tired,” Dunn said, “tired of fighting.” . . . Neighbors complained the cafe drew rowdy, caffeinated kids at all hours.

OSCAR WHO? On March 25, when the rest of the world is glued to the Academy Awards, Palmdale residents can attend the Joshua Tree Awards, given by a local television station to honor entertainment produced in the Antelope Valley. . . . KPAL-TV says 200 films, music videos and commercials were “partially or completely created in the Antelope Valley.” Nominations and reservations are accepted at (805) 272-5725.
