London Film Critics’ Picks: Nicole Kidman was named actress of the year Friday by the London Film Critics’ Circle for her performance in “To Die For.” Johnny Depp was chosen actor of the year for “Ed Wood” and “Don Juan De Marco” at the ceremony at London’s Savoy Hotel. (Films often open later in England than in the United States, which is why some of last year’s contenders are now being recognized.) “Babe” was named film of the year. “Sense and Sensibility’s” Kate Winslet took the British actress of the year award for her performance in “Heavenly Creatures.” “The Madness of King George” was named British film of the year and the movie’s Nigel Hawthorne won for British actor of the year. “The Postman (Il Postino)” took the best foreign language film honor, and its director, Michael Radford, was named best British director.
