From Associated Press

Chuck Person was counting shots, but everybody else was counting technical fouls.

The fouls won.

So did the Spurs, who got 28 points from David Robinson and 25 from Person in a 120-100 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night in San Antonio.

Person hit seven three-point shots, giving him 1,002 for his career, which ties him with Danny Ainge for third on the all-time list.

“Was I counting? Absolutely,” Person said. “I felt pretty confident; I’d been hitting them pretty well.”

Officials were kept busy calling technical fouls--10 in all. One was against Miami for an illegal defense, the other nine for arguing.

Miami’s Rex Chapman and Walt Williams and the Spurs’ Will Perdue and Monty Williams were ejected and Miami’s Chris Gatling, Kurt Thomas and Coach Pat Riley also were assessed technical fouls for arguing calls.

The second half actually started with players on the free throw line. Perdue and Gatling were called for technical fouls after the halftime buzzer sounded.

Houston 114, Atlanta 106--Despite a sore right knee, Hakeem Olajuwon scored 38 points and led a third-quarter charge that carried the Rockets to a victory at home.

Washington 100, New Jersey 92--Brent Price and Ledell Eackles hit late three-point baskets and the Bullets overcame Shawn Bradley’s first triple-double to win at East Rutherford, N.J.

Cleveland 98, Boston 73--Chris Mills scored 30 points for the Cavaliers in a victory at home.
