South Bay : DOGGY COSTS

Share

If you live in Redondo Beach, it might cost you a little more to get a dog license. The city staff has recommended that dog license fees be increased 50% to generate an additional $22,000 for the city. Licenses for spayed and neutered dogs would increase from $10 to $15 and for other dogs from $20 to $30. Cats are not required to have licenses. Also, the city staff is recommending that animal control services be turned over to the SPCA in Hawthorne to save $37,000 a year.

“Right now it costs the city $200,000 for animal control services,” City Auditor Crystal Alexander said. “And we only take in $40,000 a year in dog license fees. Fee increases and transferring to the SPCA would close the gap.”

30 p.m. public hearing on the fee increases and transfer of animal control services has been scheduled for April 2.
