Making Cents: What’s My Retirement Age?

Share

For the great majority of working people today, the standard age for getting full Social Security retirement benefits will not be 65. If you are 58 this year, your are member of the first group to have to wait a little longer--two months after you hit 65. The age rises slowly to a plateau, where everyone who is or will be 42 to 53 years old in 1996 will be eligible at 66. Then the age rises slowly again until anyone 39 or younger this year will have a retirement age of 67. At least that’s the current plan.
