A 75-year-old Ventura woman was in very critical condition Sunday, a day after her car was hit by a suspected drunk driver.
Beatrice Butler suffered head injuries in the accident and remained at Community Memorial Hospital.
Butler was driving north on Hemlock Street in Ventura about 4:50 p.m. Saturday when she drove into the path of a car traveling west on Main Street, said Ventura Police Sgt. Richard L. Cook.
The westbound car, driven by Manuel Pereira, 18, smashed into Butler’s, and the crash ejected her small dog from the car, Cook said. Police took the Pekingese, which was unhurt, to the Ventura County Animal Control pound in Camarillo, where officials said they were holding it until its owner recovers.
Pereira was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and giving false information to police.
