Janex Posts Loss for ’95 Due to Slip in Toy Sales

Janex International Inc., a Woodland Hills toy company, posted a loss in its fourth quarter and for all of 1995 primarily because of the declining sales of Mighty Morphin Power Ranger toys.

In the fourth quarter, Janex posted a $847,226 loss, compared to a $103,198 profit a year earlier, while sales rose 14% to $1.76 million, compared to sales of $1.54 million in the same period a year earlier.

For all of 1995, Janex posted a $1.11-million loss, compared to a $1.19-million profit in 1994. Sales last year were $9.4 million, down 28% from sales of $13.1 million a year earlier.

Janex said its revenues from Mighty Morphin Power Ranger toys and licenses tumbled 85% to $1.1 million in 1995, compared to $7.4 million in 1994.
