Cityhood Drive Leader Resigns as Chairman

One of the founders of the drive for Foothill communities cityhood said Monday that he is stepping down from a leadership position in the campaign.

Ron Greek said he resigned as co-chairman of the Foothills Cityhood Committee to concentrate on running his Irvine insurance firm.

“I’m passionately committed” to the cityhood drive, Greek said, “but I’ve got to earn a living. . . . My business is involved in a lot of new projects that will require quite a bit of my time.”

For the last two years, Greek has been a driving force behind the cityhood campaign, which proposes to unite 10 Saddleback Valley communities into a single municipality. He said he will remain on the group’s board of directors.

Co-chair Michelle Lamb will take over as the group’s new leader.

Communities that would become part of the so-called “supercity” would be Foothill Ranch, Portola Hills, Trabuco Canyon, Robinson Ranch, Trabuco Highlands, Dove Canyon, Coto de Caza, Las Flores, Rancho Cielo and Rancho Santa Margarita.
