‘Sisterella’ Ticket Prices

Share

I am writing to express my outrage at the recent large and abrupt increase in ticket prices for “Sisterella” (“From Rags to Riches,” Morning Report, March 20). Talk about a wicked stepmother!

Now we know what the Pasadena Playhouse really thinks of the community from whom it has so fervently begged for support. The minute it had a major hit in “Sisterella,” and the community had a crack at seeing it before it went big time, the Playhouse abruptly raised the ticket prices from the stated $13.50 and $35.50 to $55 for every seat.

Changing a price on a service or product after one comes to the site to buy same is against the law for many businesses; although I understand the arts are somehow exempt. If they put out press releases saying they would run the show until April 21 for $13.50 and $35.50 a seat, they should have honored that commitment. Shame on you, Pasadena Playhouse. If you are greedy enough to do no better by this community, I am greedy enough with my discretionary dollars to never spend any more of them on you.

Calendar section raves for “Sisterella”--theaters reaction? Up the ticket price $20!

Is this a new sign of the times? Hit show, double the price? It’s not the economy, stupid. It’s greed.

Laurie Winer’s review of “Sisterella” contains the following disturbing paragraph: “One oddity: the anti-Semitic naming of a sleazy psychiatrist and asylum owner--Fyvush Goniff--seems willingly offensive.”

That there should be even a hint of anti-Semitism in this day, in this city, in this country, is pretty horrific.

There are other ways to depict villains. Other character names. Ones that needn’t denigrate a religion, race or group.

Thanks to Laurie Winer for not letting this pass. Nobody should.
