Satan Goals Push Oilers to Victory
Edmonton’s Miroslav Satan scored two goals Friday night in a 3-2 victory over visiting Winnipeg that moved the Oilers past the Mighty Ducks into ninth place in the Western Conference.
Satan scored only 40 seconds into the game, and Dean McAmmond gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead moments later. Satan’s second goal made it 3-0 only 58 seconds into the second period, and Edmonton goalie Curtis Joseph made it stand up.
The Oilers, who are 3-0-1 in their last four games, moved within three points of Winnipeg for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference and gave the Mighty Ducks, who are four points behind the Jets, another team they need to climb over to keep playing after the regular season.
“This was playoff hockey tonight,” Winnipeg defenseman Norm Maciver said.
Said Joseph: “I’m sure it was a great game for the fans to watch, but I never got the chance to relax and enjoy it.”
