Wolf Allows Three Singles in Pepperdine’s 5-0 Win Over USF
Pepperdine continued to dominate the West Coast Conference baseball standings as Randy Wolf limited San Francisco to three singles and Gerardo Gonzalez drove in four runs in a 5-0 victory Friday at San Francisco.
Gonzalez had a pair of run-scoring doubles and hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning for Pepperdine (23-14, 12-1).
Wolf (5-2), who struck out 11 and walked one, allowed only a fourth-inning infield single to Joe Nelson through eight innings.
Nelson and Jermaine Clark singled in the ninth for the Dons (14-12, 1-4).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
CS Northridge 5, CS Los Angeles 2--Amy Peterson and Barbara San Juan each won two singles matches and teamed for a doubles victory for the Matadors (7-1).
UCLA 5, Pepperdine 4--Isabela Petrov upset defending NCAA singles champion Keri Phebus, 6-0, 6-2, but the visiting Waves fell in the nonconference match played at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley 10, Chaffey 1--Terri Tilley hit a three-run homer in the fifth for the Marauders (14-10, 4-0) in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley.
Angela Davison (9-5) gave up seven hits and one walk and struck out four for the Marauders.
Pierce 3, Cuesta 2--Kelly Lovato had three hits, including a bases-empty home run in the first inning in a Western State Conference game at Pierce.
Lovato (16-4-1) scattered eight hits and allowed no earned runs.
Lily Hernandez had three hits, an RBI, a run and a stolen base for Pierce (16-4-1, 6-2).
Moorpark 8, Canyons 7--Alicia Ramos’ RBI single in the eighth inning gave the Raiders a WSC victory at Moorpark.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Valley 106, Canyons 35--Jennifer Kaufman had two individual and two relay victories for the Monarchs (5-0) in a WSC meet.
Tracy Breuer had Canyons’ only victories, in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
Pierce 108, Rio Hondo 16--Lindsay Pressler won three races for the Brahmas in a WSC meet.
Pressler won the 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 individual medley races, and Heather Strong won the 500 free in 5:35.50.
MEN’S SWIMMING
Pierce 68, Rio Hondo 24--Ignacio Saldain won the 50 and 100 freestyle races and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team as the Brahmas (3-1) won the Western State Conference meet at Pierce.
Valley 68, Canyons 22--Aaron Robinson, Peter Angelov and Chris Wilson each won three events for the Monarchs (3-2) in a WSC meet at Canyons.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Brigham Young d. CS Northridge, 15-13, 17-16, 15-7--Ryan Millar had 24 kills and seven blocks for the Cougars (8-8, 7-7) in an upset victory over the fourth-ranked Matadors (12-8, 8-6) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at BYU.
Pierce d. Long Beach, 12-15, 15-8, 15-8, 13-15, 15-11--Tony Pray had 23 kills for the Brahmas (9-6, 9-6) in a South Coast Conference match.
